Talking Ear Canal Care: What We Discussed
On Tuesday 14 April, we hosted a live Zoom webinar on one of the most commonly misunderstood - and also rather fascinating - aspects of hearing health: the ear canal.
Hosted by Adam Shulberg FRSM, Founder and Senior Audiologist at The Well Being BY CUBEX, in conversation with Raúl Garcia-Medina, Clinical Audiologist and microsuction specialist, the session brought together clinical insight and practical guidance in a way that was clear, direct and refreshingly direct.
We were delighted by the level of attendance and engagement. Thank you to everyone who joined us.
If you were unable to attend, or would like to revisit the discussion, you can watch it here:
What we discussed
The session focused on the fundamentals of ear canal health, addressing some of the most frequent questions we see in clinic.
Ear wax — what’s normal, what’s not
Ear wax plays an essential protective role. The conversation explored when it is beneficial, and when it becomes problematic.
Common blockages and obstructions
From wax build-up to debris and narrowing of the canal, Raúl outlined the most typical causes of obstruction and how they present.
Microsuction - when it’s needed
We discussed why microsuction remains the gold standard for safe, precise wax removal, and when intervention is appropriate.
Caring for the ear canal
A clear, practical guide to what to do and, just as importantly, what to avoid. This included a discussion around cotton buds and other common habits that can cause harm.
Ear protection
Guidance on selecting the right earplugs for swimming, sleep and noise exposure, including the benefits of custom solutions.
