Auracast - Round Up

Imagine walking into a theatre, airport or museum and instantly tuning your hearing aids into the audio stream.

No background noise. No struggling to hear. Just clear, direct sound with amazing quality.

That future is arriving faster than many people realise, thanks to Auracast™ broadcast audio.

Last week, we hosted a short Auracast lunchtime briefing session with Ella Reville from AURI by Ampetronic, discussing how this technology is beginning to reshape listening accessibility in public spaces.

Auracast allows venues to broadcast audio directly to compatible hearing aids, headphones and smartphones. Whether it’s a theatre performance, a conference or meeting, airport announcements, a guided tour, or a university lecture theatre, listeners can tune directly into the sound source.

What makes Auracast particularly exciting is the network effect. As more venues install transmitters, the value grows exponentially. Theatres, cinemas, transport hubs, museums, places of worship and lecture halls are already beginning to explore and install this technology.

Compatibility is quickly expanding. Auracast currently works with:

  • Android smartphones (Google, Sony, Samsung)

  • Recent Oticon hearing ReSound and Starkey hearing aids

  • Widex and Phonak hearing aids, awaiting firmware updates

  • Certain Bluetooth earbuds and headphones

Apple integration is also expected in the near future, and already there are workarounds for some who are using Apple smartphones. https://www.listentech.com/auracast-and-iphone-what-you-can-do-now-and-whats-coming-next/

At The Well Being BY CUBEX in Marylebone, we’ll be running Auracast demo sessions from 16–20 March, where patients and visitors can experience the technology firsthand.

If you’re curious about whether your recent hearing devices could become Auracast compatible through a simple firmware update, we’d be happy to advise.

Auracast may still be in its early days but technologies like this have a way of quietly - and sometimes swiftly - becoming the new standard. For people with hearing loss, that shift can’t come soon enough.
